We spent the day at the races yesterday with Dan and Tausha and Tausha’s sister-in-law Mary.
Mary hit a nice longshot and Mike did pretty well on a Pick 3. Tausha and I spent our money on food.
We had a great time and I got some good photos. I thought I was having problems with my camera, so I didn’t take as many as I could have. Turns out I forgot about some basics of speed and light and the lens couldn’t keep up. Duh.

This was taken last year. This is Mark Twain’s home in Hartford, Connecticut.
If I remember correctly, the tour guide said this house was a cross between Victorian, Gothic Revival and Cuckoo Clock. It was a little odd looking to say the least.
The inside was very fancy, but another of those places where inside photography was not allowed.

This is the home of the 2nd President, John Adams, located in Quincy, Massachusetts. The building to the left is the library and it’s pretty amazing. Unfortunately, photography is not allowed inside so you have to go there to see it (or find a copy of the C-Span program where they visited the homes of all the presidents).

There’s a funny story about this particular stop. When we got to the American side of the falls, the set-up leaves you with the impression that you have to pay to see the falls themselves. So, we were not going to pay those crazy prices and were ready to continue on our trip. But, Mike’s Uncle Dennis said he was going to walk around and see what he could see. As it turns out, you can walk to the falls and this picture was the result. Thanks Uncle Dennis!

As a result, this is one of the most amazing homes in the country. We were able to have a private tour thanks to Mike’s planning. We arrived well before any crowds and were able to spend quite a bit of time inside. I wish I could show you what the inside looks like, but you’ll just have to go see it for yourself because photography was not allowed inside!
Update: There is now a link to the Seward House website on the right side of this blog so you can check out more about this site.

This was taken last summer. This is the Coolidge farm in Vermont – the home of former President Calvin Coolidge.
I’ve been turning the house upside down the last couple of weeks trying to find the CD with these trip photos. I finally found it last night!

Civil War battlefield. This was taken on our last trip. Another of those spots that had no people. We spent an hour or so here and didn’t see another person. It was pretty, but kind of eerie.

Mike took me to Catalina as a surprise Valentine’s gift a while back. I think it was all the way back to 1999… or maybe 2000.
We spent most of the time in Avalon, walking around town and sitting on the beach.
Mom and Lowell came over from LA and spent part of the weekend with us. We had a great time!

This was taken in 1997. Lowell was working on the Horse Whisperer, so we drove out to Big Timber and stayed for a few days. We never really saw Robert Redford, he was always surrounded by people and didn’t eat lunch with the cast and crew like some of the other actors did.
We spent some time exploring the surrounding area. This is on the western side of Montana, which is much more interesting than the eastern side.

This was taken on the most recent trip through Tennessee. This is a pretty cool concept – there are two trains that are on a counter balance system. So, when one goes up the mountain, the other comes down. We rode in this the last time we were at Lookout Mountain and it was pretty cool! I’m not all about heights but this was worth the trip.
